Our Privacy Policy

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank is committed to protecting your privacy online. We do not collect personally identifiable information from you unless you provide it to us voluntarily and knowingly. This policy is your guide to how we will handle information we learn about you from your visit to our website.

Personal Information
If you donate or request information online, you may be asked to provide some personal information, including but not limited to your name, address,  telephone number, email address, subject of inquiry, and, where appropriate, credit card number.

We use this information to send you updates and useful information about our programs and our work, enhancing website operation, for statistical purposes, and for overall systems administration.  We sometimes share the name, mailing address and giving patterns of online and offline donors with other like-minded non-profit organizations –  unless you request otherwise.  To request that we do not share any personal information, donors and web visitors are encouraged to let us know by sending an email to contactus@rifoodbank.org.  Please know that we never share email addresses or phone numbers.

You also may decide to send us personally identifying information, for example, in an electronic mail message containing a question or comment, or by filling out a web form that provides us this information.  (For security purposes, credit card information should never be emailed to us.) We use personally identifying information from email primarily to respond to your requests.  We may forward your email to other employees who are better able to answer your questions.  And we may also use your email to contact you in the future about our programs that may be of interest.

We recognize that you may wish to limit the ways in which we contact you. You may opt out of receiving specific types of communication (telephone, email, SMS/text, print mail) from the Food Bank at any time by calling our offices at 401-942-6325 or emailing us at contactus@rifoodbank.org. To stop receiving e-mail communication you may utilize the “unsubscribe” button at the bottom of email communications.

You cannot remove yourself from our database, but you can prevent unwanted communication.

When children under the age of 13 send us email (which is always by their own choice) their email address and any other contact info is only used to provide an immediate response and is not maintained in retrievable form.

Security
We take precautions involving physical, electronic, and managerial controls to protect from loss, misuse, unauthorized access or disclosure, and alteration any of your personal information in our possession. We may employ industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer encryption when requesting certain personal financial information from you. We do not, however, use such encryption during your day-to-day use of the site.  Because our e-mail correspondence is not encrypted, we advise you to never send financial information via e-mail.

We use third party vendors to process online and credit card donations. These parties maintain standards to meet PCI compliance guidelines and only request personally identifiable information for the sole purpose of providing us with the gift-processing service.  To learn more about PCI Compliance please visit https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/index.php.

Our data networks – online and offline – are protected by industry standard firewalls and password protection systems. Only authorized individuals have access to the information provided by our donors and web visitors. Any other particularly sensitive information, such as a credit card number collected for a commerce transaction, is also encrypted prior to transmission. Although we operate secure data networks, no internet transmission can be guaranteed 100% secure. However minimal, you use this site and its services at your own risk.
